As part of the implementation of the action plan of the federal project “The country’s sanitary shield - health safety (prevention, detection, response)” on September 25–29, 2023 at the Federal Budgetary Institution NNIIEM named after. Academician I.N. Blokhina held a joint Russian-Vietnamese scientific seminar "Molecular monitoring of the circulation of enteroviruses and pathogens of other current infectious diseases."

The seminar program included theoretical and practical classes on the molecular diagnostics of enteroviruses and other infections relevant to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (hereinafter referred to as SRV), organization and conduct of virological studies of environmental objects; master class on genome sequencing of enteroviruses using Oxford Nanopore technology.
Two people took part in the seminar from the Vietnamese side - specialists from the Head and Southern branches of the Joint Russian-Vietnamese Tropical Research and Technology Center (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City). On the Russian side, lectures and practical classes were conducted by employees of the Federal Budgetary Institution NNIIEM named after. Academician I.N. Blokhina of Rospotrebnadzor, leading specialists of the WHO reference center for polio surveillance (FGNU "FNTsIRIP named after M.P. Chumakov RAS", Moscow), Subnational laboratory for the diagnosis of polio and acute flaccid paralysis (FBUN NIIEM named after Pasteur, St. -Petersburg).
During the seminar, issues of virological monitoring of water bodies in the system of epidemiological surveillance of infectious diseases, methods of concentrating water samples, the results of joint Russian-Vietnamese research on the problem of enteroviral infections, as well as prospects for cooperation on infectious diseases relevant to Vietnam were discussed.
Lectures on the current state of the Polio Eradication Strategy and the issues of conducting virological monitoring of water bodies in the epidemiological surveillance system for polio/acute flaccid paralysis and the circulation of enteroviruses were attended by employees of the structural divisions of the institute.
As part of the on-the-job seminar at the Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology of Viral Infections and the Reference Center for Monitoring Enteroviral Infections, 2 specialists from the Ural-Siberian Scientific and Methodological Center for the Study of Enteroviral Infections (FBSI FNIIVI “Virom”, Ekaterinburg) were trained.
