Nikolay Semashko: the creator of Soviet healthcare

The Soviet healthcare system was considered one of the best in the world. Its uniqueness lay in the unified principles of organization and centralization of all healthcare, and the key role was played by free of charge, accessibility and qualification. The creator of the model was Nikolai Aleksandrovich Semashko, the first People's Commissar of Health of the Soviet Union.
World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day, declared in 1988, was the first internationally recognized day dedicated to health protection. Its purpose is to raise global awareness of HIV/AIDS, provide support to people living with HIV, and unite efforts to combat the spread of this disease.

Organization of laboratory research and monitoring of COVID-19

Development of scientific bases and methodological approaches to solving theoretical and applied issues of epidemiology, microbiology, genetics, immunology, diagnostics and management of actual human infectious diseases (such as Hepatitis A.B.C., acute and chronic respiratory diseases, enterovirus infections, intestinal infections of bacterial and viral etiology, community-acquired pneumonia, helicobacter infection, non-gongococcal urogenital infections, HIV infection)

Study of the human microbiocenosis, establishing a pathogenic role for microbiota in infectious diseases
Elaboration of new and improvement of available tools and methods for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases using the achievements of basic research in the fields of biology, genetics, immunochemistry; their introduction into the surveillance system
Development of applied and theoretical immunology issues aimed at reducing infectious morbidity; designand implementation of rapid methods for assessing the immune and microbial status
Meeting the needs of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Service, practical health care in scientific support and development of the country's epidemiological surveillance systems, the latest effective tools, methods and drugs for laboratory diagnosis, prevention and treatment of infectious and environmentally related diseases and their complications, as well as clinical nutrition products, patent products, their implementation and application

Currently, the Institute is a modern well-equipped scientific and clinical complex. High scientific and practical potential of the Institute allows ensuring the solution of national tasks on monitoring of the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the region and preserving the health of the population

The Institute has 154 employees, including 9 doctors of science, 5 professors, 37 candidates of science, 1 Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, 1 Honored Healthcare Worker of the Russian Federation, 14 Excellent Healthcare Workers, 11 Honored Workers of Rospotrebnadzor.
