26  06.2025
The opening of the new building of the high-level biological safety laboratory of the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology took place on June 25, 2025 in Nizhny Novgorod.

The new building was built as part of the federal project "Sanitary Shield of the Country", implemented by Rospotrebnadzor on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation. The ceremonial opening of the facility, which is important for the region and for the epidemiological safety of the country as a whole, was attended by the Head of Rospotrebnadzor A.Yu. Popova, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District I.A. Komarov, the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region G.S. Nikitin, and the Head of the Rospotrebnadzor Office for the Nizhny Novgorod Region N.S. Kucherenko. On behalf of the institute, Director N.N. Zaitseva and Deputy Director for Research A.V. Polyanina were invited to the event.

In her speech, A.Yu. Popova noted that the new laboratory will allow for the prompt deciphering and study of dangerous pathogens that pose a threat to public health, and the key advantage will be a significant (at least 4 times) increase in the volume and speed of research.

The complex will include a sequencing center (genetic decoding of microorganisms), which will allow continuous monitoring of the circulation of pathogenic microorganisms in the region and promptly respond to emerging threats.

The opening of the new complex is an important step in strengthening the state sanitary and epidemiological service, developing a modern national laboratory infrastructure, which will ensure the safety of the population of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the entire Volga Federal District.

The staff of the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Academician I.N. Blokhina congratulates fellows on this significant event and wishes them further success in their work for the benefit of protecting the health of the population of Russia!
