The creator of the model was Nikolai Aleksandrovich Semashko, the first People's Commissar of Health of the Soviet Union.

In total, as of 09/17/2021 the laboratories of the institute carried out PCR studies of 49028 samples of biological material (nasal and oropharyngeal swabs, blood, blood serum, urine, BAL fluid, sectional material) from 48568 people. Of these: 13624 - sick, 3028 - contact, 15958 - healthy, 3 - dead, 2559 - medical workers, 1859 - social workers. institutions, 131 - citizens of the PRC, 8 - returned from business trips, 4687 - re-examined. In particular, in order to verify the diagnosis of COVID-19, 6693 respiratory smears from patients of medical organizations in Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod region were examined. Over the entire period of the study, the RNA of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was detected in 10,626 samples of clinical material, the detection rate was 21.9%.

Total as of September 17, 2021. the institute received 751 samples from 6 subjects of the Volga Federal District for sequencing. 4487 studies were carried out. The results of genotyping made it possible to identify 64 isolates of SARS-CoV-2 belonging to the line B.1.1.7 (British variant), 3 isolates of SARS-CoV-2 belonging to the line B.1.351 (South African variant), 275 isolates belonging to the variant Delta virus, B.1.617.2, 1 isolate line B.1.1.523 (TDI). Research is ongoing.

As part of the Project for the Study of the Population Immunity of the Population of the Nizhny Novgorod Region to the SARS-CoV-2 Virus (5 stages, 2020–2021), 8,036 studies of the blood sera of volunteers of age groups from 1 to 98 years were conducted. An increase in the immune layer among the population from 8.5% (at the first stage) to 66.2% (at the fourth stage) was shown, among the examined persons at the fifth stage - 38.3% of respondents had class G antibodies to the nucleocapsid of the SARS-CoV virus -2.
