Nikolay Semashko: the creator of Soviet healthcare

The Soviet healthcare system was considered one of the best in the world. Its uniqueness lay in the unified principles of organization and centralization of all healthcare, and the key role was played by free of charge, accessibility and qualification. The creator of the model was Nikolai Aleksandrovich Semashko, the first People's Commissar of Health of the Soviet Union.
World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day, declared in 1988, was the first internationally recognized day dedicated to health protection. Its purpose is to raise global awareness of HIV/AIDS, provide support to people living with HIV, and unite efforts to combat the spread of this disease.

The newsettler was compiled on the basis of data provided by territorial centers for the prevention and control of AIDS in the Volga Federal District.

In the newsettler an analysis of the epidemiological situation of HIV infection in the subjects of the VFD in 2018 and an analysis of the results of testing the population of the subjects of the VFD for HIV in 2018 are presented. Information on the treatment of HIV-infected patients in subjects of VFD, including patients with co-infection HIV - tuberculosis is included. Also issues of coverage of antiretroviral therapy for patients with HIV infection and drug prevention of mother-to-child transmission of the disease are described.

The newsletter was prepared by the specialists of the Volga district center for the prevention and fight against AIDS. It is allowed to use newsletter materials with reference to the authors.
