Nikolay Semashko: the creator of Soviet healthcare

The Soviet healthcare system was considered one of the best in the world. Its uniqueness lay in the unified principles of organization and centralization of all healthcare, and the key role was played by free of charge, accessibility and qualification. The creator of the model was Nikolai Aleksandrovich Semashko, the first People's Commissar of Health of the Soviet Union.
World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day, declared in 1988, was the first internationally recognized day dedicated to health protection. Its purpose is to raise global awareness of HIV/AIDS, provide support to people living with HIV, and unite efforts to combat the spread of this disease.

Institute staff took part in the XVI Annual All-Russian Congress on Infectious Diseases

On March 25-27, 2024, the XVI Annual All-Russian Congress on Infectious Diseases named after. Academician V.I. Pokrovsky with international participation, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the 95th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian scientist, organizer of medical science and practice, prominent public figure Valentin Ivanovich Pokrovsky.

Over the three days of the congress, 68 symposia and 4 special lectures were held, in which 310 reports were presented. The Congress was attended by managers, leading specialists from research institutes of Rospotrebnadzor and many other figures in domestic science and healthcare. In total, over 4 thousand people registered for the congress.
Director of the Institute, Doctor of Medical Sciences Natalya Nikolaevna Zaitseva was a member of the presidium of the symposium “Epidemiological Surveillance of Infectious Diseases,” during which she made a report on the topic “Molecular genetic diversity of the Epstein–Barr virus in adult HIV-infected patients,” and a member of the commission of the Young Scientists Competition.
Presentations at the Congress from the Institute were also made by 2 employees of the Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology of Viral Infections of the Institute: Senior Researcher, Ph.D. N.V. Epifanova, who, in addition, acted as a member of the presidium of the symposium “Intestinal infections in clinical practice”, and junior researcher. S.V. Oparina is a participant in the Young Scientists Competition for the best report (report in poster format).
