Educational and outreach events for 3rd year students of the medical faculty of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education "Primary Medical University" of the Ministry of Health of Russia were held as part of the traditional #STOPHIVAIDS campaign for World AIDS Day.

In December, specialists from the Volga District Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS of the Federal Budgetary Scientific Institution NNIIEM named after Academician I.N. Blokhina of Rospotrebnadzor held a seminar on laboratory diagnostics of HIV infection and the campaign "HIV infection. How to avoid infection."

The purpose of the events was to attract students' attention to the problem of HIV/AIDS, to provide information on the most important aspects related to HIV infection, to draw attention to the need to know and be able to recognize situations of risk of infection, to help create a healthy lifestyle attitude in young people, and to deepen knowledge of methods of diagnosing this disease, the principles of testing and the need for pre- and post-test counseling.

The institute's specialists spoke about the ways of HIV infection and precautions that will help to avoid infection, about the principles of modern antiretroviral therapy, as well as the main provisions of the state strategy for counteracting the spread of HIV infection in the Russian Federation. Anyone who wanted to could take express tests for HIV infection free of charge and anonymously, and receive pre- and post-test consultations.
