The All-Russian Congress on Infectious Diseases was held in Moscow

From March 30 to April 1, 2026, the XVIII Annual All-Russian Congress on Infectious Diseases named after Academician V.I. Pokrovsky “Infectious Diseases in the Modern World: Evolution, Current and Future Threats” was held.

The event's scientific program focused on current issues in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases. The 58th symposium's key research areas covered topics such as ensuring sanitary and epidemiological well-being in Russia, the evolution of infectious agents, the transformation of laboratory diagnostics, antibiotic resistance and rational antimicrobial therapy, and updating clinical guidelines based on real-world practice in the treatment of infectious diseases. In total, more than 290 scientific reports were presented, two special lectures were held, one roundtable discussion was held, and a competition for young scientists was held.

More than 3,200 people participated in the Congress sessions in person, including specialists from Rospotrebnadzor, the Russian Ministry of Health, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia, other agencies and medical organizations, employees of research institutes, students and faculty of higher education institutions, and members of professional scientific communities.

Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after The I.N. Blokhina Institute of Epidemiology and Toxicology of the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) was represented by Natalya Nikolaevna Zaitseva, Director of the Institute, Doctor of Medical Sciences, and Natalya Vladimirovna Epifanova, Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology of Viral Infections. N.N. Zaitseva chaired the symposium "HIV Infection" (March 30). N.V. Epifanova chaired the symposium "Intestinal Infections in the Post-Pandemic Period: Challenges and Solutions" (March 31). She also presented a paper on the topic "The 2025/2026 Norovirus Epidemic Season: Dominance of the GII.17[P17] Genotype" (co-authored with N.A. Novikova).

The Congress was organized by the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, the V.I. Pokrovsky National Association of Infectious Disease Specialists, and other organizations.
