The event was timed to coincide with the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the Federal Research Institute of Viral Infections "Virom" of Rospotrebnadzor.

On September 24–25, 2025, the All-Russian scientific and practical conference with international participation, "Viral Infections in the 21st Century: Challenges and Responses," was held in Yekaterinburg. It was dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Federal Research Institute of Viral Infections "Virom" of Rospotrebnadzor.

The conference was attended by N.N. Zaitseva, Director of the Institute, Doctor of Medical Sciences, and L.N. Golitsyna, Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology of Viral Infections, Head of the Reference Center for Monitoring Enterovirus Infections, PhD.

N.N. Zaitseva participated in the conference as co-chair of the section "Viral Infections with Fecal-Oral Transmission: A New Look at an Old Problem." As part of the section, L.N. Golitsyna also contributed to the conference. Presented a paper on "Molecular and Epidemiological Monitoring of Enterovirus Circulation." The Institute's Director also presented a paper on "Enterovirus Infection in the Russian Federation: Current Issues of Surveillance and Prevention" as part of the plenary session "Viral Infections in the Modern World: Real Threats and Protection Against Them."

The conference was attended by specialists in epidemiology, virology, biotechnology and microbiology, immunology, Rospotrebnadzor, and practical healthcare from various regions of Russia and friendly countries near and far. Participants shared their scientific and practical experience and noted the relevance and significance of the issues discussed at the conference, including socially significant viral infections, healthcare-associated infections, current aspects of the epidemiology and prevention of natural focal and zoonotic infections, the development of new diagnostic and prophylactic drugs, as well as issues of infectious immunology and immunogenetics.
