Workshop "Incidence, etiological structure and issues of prevention of enterovirus infection"
May 28, 2019 the Reference Center for Monitoring of Enteroviral Infections conducted the INTERREGIONAL SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL WORKSHOP of scientists and specialists of institutions and organizations of Rospotrebnadzor "Incidence, etiological structure and the prevention of enteroviral (non-polio) infection" (in the framework of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Blokhina Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of Nizhny Novgorod).
The workshop was attended by specialists from the departments and centers of hygiene and epidemiology, as well as scientific institutions Rospotrebnadzor. Total attended 143 people.
7 scientific reports were presented on topical issues of epidemiological surveillance of enterovirus (non-polio) infection in Russia and in certain territories at the present stage, the results of the 2018 EVI season and the forecast for 2019. The results of molecular genetic monitoring of non-polio enteroviruses were also presented and discussed. In the second part of the seminar, a report was made on the activities of the Reference Center for Monitoring of Enteroviral Infections, which provides information on the amount of practical assistance on genotyping of enteroviruses using molecular genetic research methods in 2008-18 yy.
The workshop participants noted that the creation and development of a system of specialized centers of Rospotrebnadzor over the past ten years has improved the quality of epidemiological surveillance of EVI in the Russian Federation. At the same time, there is a problem of under-counting laboratory-not-examined cases with suspected EVI, which is especially important for recording and monitoring the incidence of severe and atypical forms. In many ways, this problem may be associated with the lack of laboratory molecular genetic studies on EV in the standards of medical care.
During the discussion of the problem of enterovirus infection of newborns, participants of the Seminar stated that the prevalence of this disease and its significance for public health, possible and prevailing mechanisms and ways of transmission of EVI from mother to child, risk factors and the potential for epidemic spread of EVI in obstetric hospitals, and clinical semiotics diseases remain insufficiently studied. This leads to imperfect diagnostics and the ineffectiveness of preventive and anti-epidemic measures, the risk of nosocomial foci.
In general, the participants noted the scientific and practical importance and relevance of the seminar on the eve of the EVI season of 2019, the high level of professionalism of the speakers, a clear and high-quality organization, as well as the need to hold events of this format on a regular basis.
