Laboratory of Microbiology
Print versionHead of the laboratory – Doctor of Medical Sciences (DSc. in Medicine)
Dmitry V. Kryazhev
The laboratory has been established in 1968. The main research problem was the study of the molecular structures of bacterial pathogens; as a result of research, methods for differentiating bacteria based on electrophoretic analysis of proteins of various localization were developed. Since 2001, the laboratory has studied the pathogenicity and persistence of respiratory tract bacteria in patients with chronic bronchopulmonary diseases, and since 2011, it has investigated the characteristics of the microbiocenosis of the nasopharyngeal mucosa of people in organized groups.
Directions of activities:
- Dynamic study of the nasopharyngeal mucous microbiota as an indicator of the state of homeostatic mechanisms in people during their involvement in the formation of a closed team.
- Study of sensitivity to various biocins and biological properties of bacteria existing in the composition of biofilm communities of microbiota and being active participants in the emergence of infections associated with health care.
Laboratory achievements
- A new direction in the taxonomy of bacteria has been developed - differentiation by protein spectra, which are a kind of epidmarkers. This allows usingprotein spectra for deciphering epidemiological situations.
- Microbial landscapes in purulent-inflammatory diseases of various localization have been characterized.
- The microecology of nasopharyngeal mucosa, the state of mucosal and lymphocytic immunity in healthy individuals during the formation of an organized team was studied.
