This Day has become one of the most important international days related to health issues and a key opportunity to raise public awareness, mobilize political will and resources to tackle the global challenges of responding to the epidemic, commemorate those who have died from the disease and celebrate achievements such as expanding access to treatment. and preventive measures.

According to UNAIDS estimates, more than 79 million people have become infected with HIV in the world over the entire history of HIV infection, and more than 36 million people have already died from HIV / AIDS-related diseases.
According to the Federal Scientific and Methodological Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS, the prevalence of HIV infection among the population of the Russian Federation as of September 30, 2021 was 774.5 per 100 thousand of the population, which is 0.8% of the total population of the country and 1.5% of the population. between the ages of 15 and 49. Cases of HIV infection have been registered in all constituent entities of the Russian Federation. There was a constant increase in the number of regions with a high prevalence of HIV infection (more than 0.5% of the total population): from 22 in 2014 to 41 in 2021. More than half lived in these disadvantaged regions in 2021 (64 , 3%) of the total population of the country and 84.6% of all HIV-infected. The prevalence rate of HIV infection exceeding the national average value was observed in 22 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
In the Volga Federal District, as of September 30, 2021, 346 810 cases of HIV infection were cumulatively registered, 204 650 people infected with HIV were subject to dispensary observation. The prevalence of HIV infection in the Okrug population was 704.0 per 100 thousand of the population. For 9 months of this year, 11,360 new cases of HIV infection were detected in the Volga Federal District, including 89 in children under 14 years of age. The average incidence rate for the district was 39.1 per 100,000 population.
This year marks forty years since the beginning of the HIV pandemic, and the world is meeting this date during the fourth wave of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The syndemic has increased the tension in the health care systems, demanded huge financial resources and human resources to overcome it. This year, World AIDS Day is celebrated around the world under the slogan “End Inequality. End AIDS. End Pandemics ”and the motto“ Measures to End AIDS Will Also Help Stop Future Pandemics ”.
