Specialists from the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Academician I.N. Blokhina of Rospotrebnadzor have developed and received a patent for the invention "A method for detecting antibodies to recombinant proteins VP1, VP2, and VP3 of Echovirus 30."

The honorary veteran of the institute, Alexandra Stepanovna Antsupova, turned 100 years old!

Alexandra Stepanovna Antsupova is the oldest living former employee of the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Academician I.N. Blokhina of Rospotrebnadzor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Excellent Health Worker, holder of the Order of the Badge of Honor.

Alexandra Stepanovna worked at the institute for 32 years, from 1957 to 1989, and defended her candidate’s (1961) and then doctor’s (1971) dissertations. In 1969 A.S. Antsupova became the head of the laboratory of enteroviral infections, heading the virology department. The scientific directions of the laboratory were studying the etiology of polio-like diseases, monitoring the circulation of “wild” and vaccine polioviruses, monitoring the state of humoral immunity to polio in children, studying the role of Coxsackie B viruses in acute myocarditis, as well as improving methods for diagnosing enteroviral infections. Laboratory of Enteroviral Infections, headed by A.S. Antsupova, one of the first in our country to begin studying rotavirus infections, in particular research into the genetic diversity of rotaviruses, which is currently being continued by her students and followers. Research conducted under the guidance of A.S. Antsupova, made a significant contribution to improving epidemiological surveillance of intestinal infections in our country.
Alexandra Stepanovna is on a well-deserved retirement, but still enjoys great respect and authority as an exceptionally friendly and talented scientist, as a person dedicated to the profession, a mentor whose work is continued by grateful students.


In connection with the anniversary, the museum of the institute has prepared an exhibition about the scientific path of Alexandra Stepanovna.
