On October 30, 2024, a joint online seminar of young scientists "Current issues of assessment and prevention of morbidity in the Nizhny Novgorod region" was held at the Federal Budgetary Scientific Institution NNIIEM named after Academician I.N. Blokhina of Rospotrebnadzor and the Federal Budgetary Scientific Institution "NNIIGP" of Rospotrebnadzor.

The organizers of the seminar were the Councils of young scientists of the Federal Budgetary Institution of Science NNIIEM named after Academician I.N. Blokhina of Rospotrebnadzor (Nizhny Novgorod) and the Federal Budgetary Institution of Science "NNIIGP" of Rospotrebnadzor (Nizhny Novgorod). The event was attended by 20 young scientists from the institutes. According to the agenda, 6 scientific reports on the following issues were reviewed and discussed at the seminar:

  • Design and study of the antigenic properties of proteins that are the basis of candidate vaccines against human rotavirus and enterovirus infections;
  • Study of the molecular genetic features of the human herpes virus 6B among children of the Nizhny Novgorod region;
  • Analysis of the representativeness of biological fluids of the body of workers for biomonitoring of formaldehyde;
  • Study of the effect of shift work on changes in diets and the development of occupational diseases among workers of industrial enterprises.

The participants of the online seminar presented the results of their own research aimed at expanding knowledge about current infectious and non-infectious diseases, developing methods for their prevention and/or minimizing the risks of complications and pathological conditions.
The participants of the seminar noted the importance of developing new domestic means of specific prevention of infectious diseases, the need to expand knowledge about the molecular genetic characteristics of pathogens circulating in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The need to develop valid methods for assessing shift work conditions among workers of industrial enterprises in the region to optimize the work process and reduce the level of occupational diseases, as well as the high importance of choosing representative biomaterial for research, was emphasized.
Young scientists concluded that in order to improve the efficiency of the research institute employees of both microbiological and hygienic profiles, and to carry out relevant research "at the junction" of areas of scientific knowledge, it is necessary to continue the practice of joint scientific and practical events of young scientists of the two institutions of Rospotrebnadzor, and also to consider the possibilities of further cooperation and joint research work. In order to implement the intentions for cooperation, it was proposed to include joint events in the work plans of the Councils of Young Scientists of the Federal Budgetary Institution of Science NNIIEM named after Academician I.N. Blokhina of Rospotrebnadzor and the Federal Budgetary Institution of Science "NNIIGP" of Rospotrebnadzor for 2025.
